Introducing Scarborough Chiropractor Dr. Olivier Abtan

Dr. Olivier Abtan

"All I saw was a large SUV heading straight for me...

While in pre-med courses at the University of Toronto I had taken a job as a research assistant in a lab at Mount Sinai Hospital.  Leaving work at the end of a long day,  I crossed the street with the right of way and I was struck by a truck running a red light through the intersection.  My leg and foot were crushed and I suffered numerous other injuries to my hip, spine and neck.  Many doctors and specialists  later and many long days in waiting rooms, I was still left with chronic back, knee and leg pain.  Then my fiance suggested I see a chiropractor. She suffered with horrible migraines for years and her chiropractor was the only one who could alleviate the symptoms without drug therapy.  She swears by chiropractors.  I must admit I was a skeptic at first.  But, like hers, my results were incredible.  I'll never forget that first adjustment.  It was as if a huge release of pain was suddenly lifted off my back.  That's when I changed my course, at school and in life, and decided to become a chiropractor."

Dr. Abtan attended the University of Toronto on scholarship where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in human biology.  After completing his study there he was accepted at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto.   During his four years at CMCC, courses included nutrition and biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques, exercise therapy and patient care in the Herbert K. Lee public clinic.  After graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1996 with numerous awards and recognitions,  Dr. Abtan was accepted into the prestigious Sports Residency Program.  Dr. Abtan has worked with both professional and amateur athletes and has lectured and taught students and chiropractors at CMCC.   He has been a guest on television (Citytv Breakfeast television) and has lectured to groups and corporations on a variety of health and wellness topics.

Dr. Abtan is married for over 10 years to his wife and office manager Bryna. Together they have four wonderful children.  Two boys ages 8 and 6 and two girls ages 4 and 18 months.  When not at the clinic he can be found at karate, hockey practice, dance lessons, the library, the park or at home with his wife and children and of course the dog,  spending quality time with his family.

Dr. Olivier Asks some important questions of interest to Scarborough residents - Chiropractor Scarborough Dr. Olivier Asks...

What does a chiropractic adjustment do?
Chiropractic adjustments give your spine a little "nudge" at the right place, right time and the right direction so your body can use that energy to "right" itself. With a schedule of consistent chiropractic visits, a new, healthier spinal pattern emerges.
Why do so many drugs require a prescription?
Because they can be dangerous? I chose a chiropractic career specifically because it avoids artificial means of pain relief. Our Scarborough chiropractic practice attracts health-conscious families that prefer a safe and natural solution. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
